Comfort is Key

Having a healthy practice helps you come back to the yoga mat more often. This means listening to your body because no yoga instructor can feel what you are feeling. No one has the same body type as you. No one has the same experiences or the same injuries. So pay attention to that point between too much and not enough.

Listen to your breath as well. If you are not breathing you are not practicing yoga. You’ll be turning what can be a pleasant, enriching moment into torture and struggle. Why would you come back to the yoga mat when it’s all torture and struggle? Life is stressful enough as it is. Lay down if you need to, take a conscious break, then come back to it, with your breath as your friend.

Have fun with your practice! Be patient with your perceived inadequacies because they don’t matter. If you want to feel better you have to do the work, no doubt about it, but always be nice to yourself and be aware of your needs. In the end, it’s all about the loving journey of acceptance, patience, and practice, practice, practice!
